Russian FA to probe Samba abuse

The head of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Sergei Fursenko has described as 'outrageous' Sunday's racial abuse on Anzhi Makhachkala defender Christopher Samba and declared the incident was being investigated.

The Congo international had a banana thrown at him in a Russian Premier League match by fans of home side Lokomotiv Moscow.

"The (Sunday) incident with Samba was simply outrageous and I've instructed our ethics committee to look into this," Fursenko told reporters.

Samba, who threw the banana back into the stands, expressed his disappointment, at the racist behaviour afterward.

"I'm very sad that (the incident) was seen by kids," the former Blackburn Rovers skipper told his club's official website.

"It would be a bad example for them. I try not to think about racism too much. I just hope such a problem doesn't exist in global terms. Maybe I'm mistaken. This was the act of one stupid person. I don't want to react to it."

Denial

Meanwhile the president of Lokomotiv Olga Smorodskaya has denied that there was any banana thrown by her club's fans during the game, saying she was at the stadium and "didn't see anything bad there".

"We have a lot of dark-skinned players on our team and have never had anything of this kind."

Though Lokomotiv currently have a Nigerian Obinna Nsofor in their books, the club's fans had racially abused their former Nigerian striker Osaze Odemwingie in 2010 when they unfurled a banner with a banana image and the words "Thanks, West Brom" after his move to the English club.
