Goran Stevanovic has been left searching for answers after Ghana terminated his 14-month-old contract following his failure to lead the Black Stars to the title at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Serbian guided the four-time Africa champions through the qualifiers for the continental showpiece unbeaten, but failed to convince in the finals, losing out to eventual champions Zambia in the semi-finals.
Following several deliberations the Ghana Football Association gave the 45-year-old former Partizan Belgrade coach the boot on Friday, a decision officially confirmed today.
"I asked one question - if there is any chance I can stay - and they answered no," Stevanovic told BBC Sport.
"I am surprised because I think that reaching the semi-finals is not a bad result.
"Everybody knows that our loss against Zambia was the first in a competitive game.
"I remember the Brazil game, England game and they were all very good games. In football there is a lot of stress and it is unpredictable. I am more surprised, I am not disappointed. It is normal in our lives."
Though disappointed, Plavi, who still had ten months to run in his contract, has said he would like to settle his exit and compensation amicably.
"I am sure that I did my job honestly and with big motivation, and for that I will be calm and negotiate with GFA," the Serb said.
"They are good people and I want to have a good relationship with everybody."
